This summer’s Kanokla Tech Camp gave 50 students from grades 5–9 another hands-on experience exploring the world of technology. Our team designed Tech Camp to inspire curiosity and confidence, and featured a variety of interactive stations that let kids dive into the creative and mechanical sides of tech.

At the AI Creativity Station, students collaborated with our Design Studio team, utilizing artificial intelligence to design their own posters and notebooks, learning how technology can enhance creativity and imagination. Nearby, the Build-a-Computer Station provided an opportunity for students to learn from the Kanokla IT team and explore the hardware side of things. By assembling real computer components through trial and error, they built a fully functional computer that they had put together.

The energy ramped up at the Battle Bots Arena, where students built and customized robots to pop their opponents’ balloons in friendly competition. Across the room, the Robo Soccer Station scratched the competitive itch as kids programmed robots to score goals and teach teamwork. For those who preferred a bird’s-eye view, the Drone Flight Station provided hands-on lessons in drone control, flight paths, and real-world applications.

We finished the week on Friday with the kids participating in a Rocket League tournament with each other. Rocket League is a game based on soccer, but instead of players, you control a car. With lots of great competition, one competitor stood victorious: Colt Schmidt.

We also welcomed a special visit from Sumner Cowley Electric, whose team taught campers about electrical safety through a fun and interactive demonstration, reminding everyone that understanding technology also means learning to use it safely.

We also welcomed two members of the plant department to teach the kids how fiber is spliced. This gave the kids insight into how the process of getting fiber from underground to the house is accomplished.

From computers and robotics to drones and AI, Tech Camp 2025 provided young minds with an opportunity to explore, create, and envision the future of technology. The excitement, teamwork, and discoveries made along the way are sure to inspire the next generation of innovators.
