Longtime Jetmore resident and mass communications professor at Dodge City Community College, John Ewy has filed to run for the 117th House District as a Republican candidate. Ewy says that although he has never held an elected position in government before he is excited for this new venture.

     In the course of interviewing a number of different 4-H leaders in anticipation of the fair, a theme emerged:  4-H isn't just for farm kids.  Club leaders and project leaders alike emphasized the leadership skills kids learn from various aspect of 4-H programs.  Jolene Brauer and Jennifer Latzke are no exceptions.

     The Kansas Genealogical Society will meet at 2 p.m. July 14 in the upper level meeting room at the Village Square Mall, Dodge City.  The program, “Settling the Sea of Grass: Many Communities, One State” will be the presentation and discussion by Dr. Jay M. Price, Professor of History at Wichita State University.

     According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, gangs are expanding, evolving and posing an increased threat to U.S. communities.

At first glance, it may seem that violent crime is on the rise, but according to Dodge City Chief of  Police Craig Mellecker, the number of violent crimes in our community are declining.

     Ford County Fire and EMS has determined that a discarded cigarette started the fire near Wright over the weekend. The fire occurred on US 400 near mile marker 131, about seven miles east of Dodge.

     For the first time since 1989, the Residence Life staff at Dodge City Community College is spending a busy summer completing two new tasks. First, incoming freshman and sophomore women are being assigned to a brand new hall. And second, male students are being assigned to Coleman-Webb hall for the first time in many years (previously an all women’s hall).

     Now that summer is finally here the Depot Theater is getting ready for their summer youth sessions.

     The organizers of this year's Relay for Life fundraiser want the community to remember that cancer doesn't stop or fluctuate with the economy.

Authorities say Kansas businessman, Ronald Bramlage, his wife and their four children were killed when their small plane crashed into a swampy area of central Florida.
